The Ministry of Interior is discussing enhancing international coordination on illegal immigration and border security.

Tripoli, August 31, 2025 (LANA) - An expanded meeting was held this Sunday morning at the Ministry of Interior, chaired by Major General Mohamed Al-Marhani, Chairman of the Technical Committee for Monitoring Illegal Migration and Border Security. The meeting was held based on the directives of the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Monitoring the Illegal Migration.

The meeting was attended by several committee members, along with representatives from the Ministries of Interior and relevant international organizations and agencies, including the Libyan Humanitarian Aid and Relief Agency, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The attendees discussed mechanisms for enhancing coordination with international partners with the aim of increasing voluntary return and humanitarian evacuation flights, as well as addressing the challenges hindering the implementation of these flights, within the framework of the Ministry's plan to combat the phenomenon of illegal migration.

The meeting also addressed the preparation of a plan for the temporary distribution of aid to displaced Sudanese until they return to their country. To discuss a plan for the return of displaced Syrians, in coordination with the Syrian government and relevant international bodies.

This meeting coincides with the deportation of illegal immigrants. A group of them were deported to Niger last night, as part of the National Unity Government's initiative to organize voluntary return in accordance with national laws and international standards.
