Douma affirms his rejection of any foreign military presence in Libya under any name or justification

Benghazi, August 30, 2025 (LANA) - Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Misbah Douma, expressed his deep concern about the continued military presence on Libyan soil, despite the changes witnessed in the local political landscape and the ongoing efforts to end the division and achieve stability.

In a statement published by House Spokesperson Abdullah Blihaq, Douma affirmed his explicit rejection of any foreign military presence, under any name or justification, noting the growing nationalist voices calling for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya.

He stated that previous military intervention was a factor in fueling the internal conflict and opening the door to conflicting regional interventions, which harmed the Libyan-Libyan solution and contributed to prolonging the crisis.

Douma emphasized that national sovereignty is not subject to negotiation, and that Libya's security cannot be built with the presence of foreign forces, but rather with a unified government that oversees presidential and parliamentary elections and the unification of state institutions across Libya.

The second deputy of the House of Representatives emphasized that Libya's foreign relations must be built on the foundations of mutual cooperation, mutual interests, and full respect for sovereignty.

Douma welcomed the strengthening of political and economic partnerships with all countries willing to cooperate with Libya in the areas of trade, investment, infrastructure, and education within a transparent legal framework that serves the interests of the Libyan people first and foremost.

Douma called on the Security Council, Libyan political parties, and the 5+5 Committee to take practical steps to end all forms of foreign military presence and move toward balanced and responsible relations that preserve Libya's security and independence and open up prospects for true development and stability.
