Al-Baour discusses the political situation in the country with Berndt

Tripoli, August 29, 2025 (LANA) – Taher Al-Baour, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, discussed on Thursday with Jeremy Berndt, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya, the current political situation in the country and ways to facilitate US visas for Libyan citizens.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between Libya and the United States and ways to develop them and enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields. They also discussed aspects of the current political situation in Libya and ways to support the political process towards stability.

The two sides also discussed the challenges related to visa procedures and ways to facilitate them for Libyan citizens in a manner that serves their common interests.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting addressed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need for an immediate ceasefire and the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid. Both sides expressed concern over the deteriorating situation there.

The two sides stressed the importance of continuing joint consultation and coordination to contribute to enhancing security and stability in Libya and the region.
