The European Union affirms its commitment to supporting the UN roadmap and the democratic process in Libya.

Tripoli, August 27, 2025 (LANA) – Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, discussed on Wednesday in Tripoli with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando, the latest political and security developments in the country and ways to support the new roadmap led by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Orlando expressed his pleasure at meeting Al-Lafi in a tweet on his official account, noting that the meeting included a comprehensive review of current developments and a discussion of the best mechanisms to support UN efforts aimed at ending the division and achieving tangible progress on the political track.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of all Libyan parties supporting the facilitation efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and working seriously and effectively to ensure the success of the roadmap. They emphasized the need to avoid any unilateral initiatives that could harm the country's unity.
Orlando called on all Libyan parties across the country to engage constructively with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, stressing the European Union's full commitment to supporting Libya's democratic process and its readiness to engage with all responsible actors to help reunify civilian and military institutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, they agreed on the importance of continuing consultation and coordination over the coming months, which Orlando described as "important," in light of regional and international efforts aimed at supporting Libya's stability and restoring its unity.
