Tripoli, August 25, 2025 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, while outlining the political roadmap, affirmed that the United Nations is committed to supporting the aspirations of the Libyan people to build stable institutions and organize transparent and inclusive elections.
In a post published by the mission on its official page, which included the main points of her briefing to the Security Council, Tetteh said: “You told us that you want a stable government of your choice, that you want to elect your leaders at the local and national levels, and that you want to be part of the process, not as spectators but as citizens of your country. This roadmap seeks to make your aspirations achievable.”
She explained that the new political process is based on engaging Libyan leaders on the one hand, and re-engaging citizens at the heart of the political process through inclusive dialogue and ongoing consultations held in person and online.
The UN envoy affirmed the mission's commitment to transparency and listening to all Libyan voices, adding, "We are committed to listening to you and being transparent about what we intend to do, the challenges we may face, and what we will do to overcome them."
Tetteh emphasized that these steps aim to pave the way for inclusive national elections that meet the aspirations of Libyans to build a stable state, based on popular will and involving everyone in shaping its future.
