Aboul Gheit welcomes the UN roadmap for a solution in Libya.

Cairo, August 24, 2025 (LANA) – Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the political roadmap presented by the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Tetteh, during her briefing to the Security Council. The roadmap aims to pave the way for the unification of Libyan institutions and the holding of presidential and legislative elections.
Aboul Gheit affirmed his support for UN efforts aimed at ending the state of division and restoring stability in Libya, according to a statement by the Secretary-General's spokesperson, Jamal Rushdi, on Sunday.
Aboul Gheit said that the proposed roadmap represents an opportunity that all parties must seize to reach a comprehensive political settlement in Libya. He noted the importance of the UN mission continuing to coordinate with the Libyan parties and regional and international partners to ensure the necessary political and technical support for the implementation of the roadmap's provisions.
The spokesperson stressed the importance of ensuring Libyan ownership and leadership of the political process, expressing the Arab League's commitment to supporting and accompanying Libyans to bring views closer and resume dialogue, and its commitment to preserving Libya's unity, independence, and sovereignty.
