Tripoli, August 24, 2025 (LANA) – Deputy member of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, affirmed that the Presidential Council continues to perform its duties during this critical phase, relying on solid national foundations based on protecting Libyan sovereignty, preserving the unity of institutions, and renewing legitimacy through free and transparent elections that restore the Libyan people's right to self-determination.
This came in a press statement made by Al-Lafi, commenting on the briefing given by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hanna Tetteh, to the Security Council on the latest developments in Libya.
Al-Lafi said, "I listened carefully to the briefing given by Tetteh to the Security Council on the situation in Libya," expressing his appreciation for her efforts to help Libyans overcome the political impasse. He also welcomed close cooperation with the UN mission to ensure the success of the proposed roadmap, making it a bridge towards stability, rather than a new stage of obstruction.
The Presidential Council member pointed out that international disagreement over the Libyan issue does not change the fact that "the solution will only be purely Libyan," emphasizing that any external support will only be effective to the extent that it aligns with the unifying national will.
Al-Lafi affirmed that the Presidential Council will continue to work to consolidate a sincere national partnership, transforming international support into a true lever for stability, not a tool for conflict.
He concluded his statement by emphasizing that Libya today stands at a critical crossroads, and that the Presidential Council is determined to fulfill its responsibilities at this stage, in cooperation with national forces and international partners, to organize elections based on broad national consensus, rebuild legitimacy, consolidate peace, and pave the way for a secure and stable future.
Al-Lafi also called on all national partners and political leaders to work together to formulate a comprehensive national project aimed at ending the crisis, unifying institutions, and launching a genuine political process that restores the state's sovereignty and enables Libyans to regain their national decision-making power through a comprehensive dialogue based on trust and the supreme national interest.
