Tripoli, August 23, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the announcement by the High National Elections Commission of the preliminary results for 26 municipalities in the western region.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Mission called on all parties to accept the voting results peacefully and to resort to judicial mechanisms in the event of any objections.
The UN Mission also welcomed the voting taking place today in seven municipalities, following the unfortunate arson attack that targeted the Commission's warehouse in the Zawiya field office last week.
The Mission urged all registered voters to actively participate in choosing their representatives and cast their votes today in the municipalities of Zawiya Central, Zawiya Central, Zawiya West, Zawiya North, Sabratha, Surman, and Bir al-Ghanam.
The Mission renewed its call on the government appointed by the House of Representatives to remove obstacles and urgently allow the continuation of elections in the municipalities where the process has been suspended, so that all Libyan citizens can exercise their political rights and participate in forming their municipal councils.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) noted that holding elections enhances confidence-building and accountability between citizens and local leaders.
