Tripoli, August 22, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) revealed that it had received reports of a rocket being fired in the vicinity of its compound during a briefing by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hannah Tetteh, to the Security Council. The mission confirmed that the headquarters was not affected by the incident.

In a statement posted on its Twitter account on Thursday night, the UN mission expressed its appreciation for the vigilance of the Libyan security authorities and their swift action to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this incident and ensure the continued security of UN headquarters. The mission affirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Libya's efforts towards peace, stability, and the rule of law.

The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity had previously announced Thursday night that it had thwarted a failed attempt to target the UNSMIL headquarters in Libya by launching an SPG rocket that struck a house in the city of Janzour, without causing any damage.
