Benghazi, August 22, 2025 (LANA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, welcomed the briefing by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, before the UN Security Council on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

In a statement issued Thursday night, Aguila praised Tetteh's clear call for the formation of a new unified government within two months, which would prepare for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. This is a fundamental step toward unifying the executive authority and strengthening Libyan unity.

In the statement, Aguila affirmed his full support for this call, which ensures the unification of state institutions, safeguards national sovereignty, and fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity. He emphasized that the current government is the legitimate government emanating from the House of Representatives, which gained its confidence under the leadership of Osama Hamad.
