Tripoli, 20 August 2025 (Lana) The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, revealed that the roadmap to be announced on August 21 will focus primarily on bringing the Libyans back to the core of the political process, paving the way for free and inclusive presidential and legislative elections.

This came during a virtual Zoom meeting held last Wednesday with a group of young Libyan women, during which Tetteh discussed the importance of community participation and democratic representation, particularly the empowerment of Libyan women.

"Through elections, we instill confidence and empower the elected person to act on our behalf, in accordance with laws and regulations," Tetteh said.

“The upcoming roadmap will provide a clear path for Libya to reach elections, and the importance of Libyan women being active partners in this process,” she stated.

"All women must be able to fulfill their role and contribute to making a positive difference in their country," she added.

These statements come within the framework of the UNSMIL’s continued support for the political process in Libya and its efforts to create an environment for holding democratic elections that reflect the aspirations of the Libyan people and restore sovereignty to the will of the people.
