Parliament approves amendment to the powers of the army's leadership levels and appoints Nathouri as National Security Advisor

Benghazi, August 18, 2025 (LANA) - The House of Representatives held an official session today, Monday, in Benghazi, chaired by the Speaker of the House, Counselor Aguila Saleh, and attended by his first deputies, Fawzi al-Nuwairi and Misbah Doma.

The House discussed the proposal submitted by more than seventy representatives to amend Law No. (1) of 2015 regarding the powers of command levels in the Libyan Army. The House voted unanimously to adopt this amendment, according to House spokesman Abdullah Blihaq.

According to Blihaq, the House voted unanimously to appoint Lieutenant General Abdul Razzaq al-Nathouri as National Security Advisor.

The House of Representatives reviewed the draft public debt law and decided to refer it to the Constitutional and Legislative Committee and the Planning, Finance, and General Budget Committee.

Under the item "Other Business," the House of Representatives discussed the country's electricity crisis and decided to assign the House's Energy and Natural Resources Committee to meet with Counselor Aguila Saleh, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Electricity in the government assigned by the House of Representatives, and electricity sector specialists to address the energy crisis.

The House of Representatives decided that the Energy Committee would submit a detailed report to the House of Representatives to take the necessary measures to end the country's electricity crisis. The session was therefore adjourned until tomorrow, Tuesday.
