Tripoli, August 16, 2025 (LANA) - The Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity, Abdul Shafi' al-Juwaifi, praised the organizational conditions and preparatory measures for the voting process for the second group of municipal council elections for 2025.

In a statement issued on Saturday, al-Juwaifi commended the efforts made by the High National Elections Commission and its technical staff, noting their prominent role in managing the electoral process and creating the appropriate conditions to ensure the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and impartiality at all stages.

The Minister explained that voting commenced successfully in 26 municipal councils out of the 63 scheduled to participate in the second group of 2025 elections, according to the High National Elections Commission's statements.

He pointed out that the process was postponed in seven municipalities until August 23 due to attacks targeting some of the Commission's centers and offices. Voting was also suspended in 27 municipal councils in the eastern region due to these incidents.

Concluding his statement, Minister Al-Juwaifi appealed to all relevant authorities in the municipalities where voting was suspended, calling for intensified efforts and the provision of a safe and secure environment to ensure the elections are held as soon as possible, while preserving voters' rights to choose their representatives.

Al-Juwaifi also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Interior for securing and protecting polling stations, appreciating its ongoing cooperation with the commission to ensure the electoral process proceeds with integrity and security.
