Tripoli, August 16, 2025 (LANA) - Abdulhakim Al-Shaab, a member of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), said that the Libyan citizen, in light of the grave challenges they face, including poor services and difficulty obtaining basic needs, has chosen the path of change and reform in an effort to end the daily suffering. However, this path has not been without desperate attempts to obstruct the will of the people.

This came during a press conference held today, Saturday, at the HNEC's media center, attended by the Chairman and members of the HNEC Board, the Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, representatives of the United Nations Development Programme, and a host of guests and media professionals.

Al-Shaab added, "Yesterday morning, we witnessed criminal attacks targeting the West Coast Electoral Administration Office building and the Zawiya office, and before that, the Zliten office, in a desperate attempt to confiscate the right of Libyans to choose their candidates."

He explained that the Commission issued Decision No. (2) in January, approving 63 electoral districts for the second group. Despite the obstacles facing the electoral process, it issued its decision to suspend elections in 13 municipalities. It was decided to postpone the elections in these municipalities until August 23.

For his part, the Director of the Field Operations Department, Al-Sadiq Al-Zakkar, presented during the press conference a presentation on the voting process, which included statistics on the number of polling stations. Polling stations, municipalities where voting was not possible, and municipalities where voting was postponed to next Saturday.
