Tripoli, August 16, 2025 (LANA) – On Wednesday, on the occasion of International Youth Day, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, participated in a meeting with more than 40 young people organized by the Youth Dialogue Forum in Tripoli, as part of a series of meetings organized to discuss the political process.
The mission reported on its official page on Friday that the meeting was attended by a group of young leaders from various regions of Libya, who shared their concerns and ideas regarding the development of a roadmap for the political process. They also held a direct discussion with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on how to include youth voices in the next phase of the political process.
During the meeting, the Special Representative, Tetteh, said, "Libyan youth must have a role in determining their future." She explained that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) had conducted extensive consultations with various segments of Libyan society to explore their views on the best option and had allocated a special track for youth.
Tetteh added, "More than 22,000 people participated in the online survey, and consultations were conducted with another 2,500 people, either face-to-face or online."
The UN envoy noted that during this period, many Libyans, including young people, expressed a loss of confidence in Libyan institutions.
She said, "Moving forward, we must focus on the tasks that must be accomplished to hold elections, which will put the Libyan people back at the heart of the political process."
