The Electoral Commission announces the resumption of elections in Zawiya, Sabratha, Surman, and Bir al-Ghanam next Saturday

Tripoli, August 16, 2025 (LANA) - The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced that voting in the municipalities of (Al-Zawiya Central, Al-Zawiya Center, Al-Zawiya West, Al-Zawiya North, Sabratha, Surman, and Bir al-Ghanam) will resume next Saturday, August 23.

This came in a decision issued by the Commission today, Saturday, in accordance with Article (45) of the Executive Regulations for the Election of Municipal Councils, Group Two, 2025.

Voters in the municipalities targeted by the municipal council elections in Libya headed to the polls this morning to elect their municipal councils within Group Two.

The Commission had condemned in the strongest terms the attacks, which it described as criminal, that targeted the West Coast Electoral Administration Office building at dawn on Friday, leading to its burning. The Commission also condemned the attack on the Zawiya Electoral Administration Office, which resulted in the burning of the main warehouse containing voting materials and the training hall designated for qualifying electoral cadres.
