Italy affirms its strong support for municipal elections throughout Libya

Tripoli, August 16, 2025 (LANA) – The Italian Republic, through its embassy in Libya, affirmed its full and strong support for the municipal elections that began this morning, Saturday, across the country.

The Italian embassy explained, in a tweet published on its official account on the "X" platform on Friday evening, that "Italy strongly supports the municipal elections scheduled for today, Saturday, across Libya, and that any attempts to obstruct or prevent the democratic process, including the use of violence, are extremely worrying and threaten the ability of Libyans to freely choose their local representatives."

The embassy also commended the "High National Elections Commission's insistence on supporting the democratic rights of the Libyan people."
