Tripoli, August 15, 2025 (LANA) – The West Coast Electoral Administration Office announced, early Friday morning, that its headquarters was deliberately set on fire, resulting in material damage and the injury of a security officer who attempted to thwart a break-in attempt that coincided with the outbreak of the fire.
The office explained, via its official Facebook page, that the injured security officer was transferred to the hospital for necessary medical care, confirming that his health condition is stable. Damage assessments are still underway and are expected to take time to assess the full impact of the incident.
According to the office, the Ajilat Security Directorate and relevant security agencies rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and began investigations. Firefighters were able to control the fire.
The office expressed deep regret over this "sinful" attempt, asserting that it aims to obstruct the electoral process. It emphasized that such actions only reflect the desire of certain parties to destabilize and thwart Libyans' aspirations to build a stable, democratic state.
The office indicated that the incident had been reported to the High National Elections Commission, which is the body authorized to decide whether or not to continue the electoral process.
