The Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Unity discusses with its British counterpart the resumption of consular work in Tripoli.

Tripoli, August 11, 2025 (LANA) – Abu Bakr al-Tawil, Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, discussed on Monday in Tripoli with Owen Jenkins, Director-General for the Indo-Pacific, Middle East and North Africa at the British Foreign Office, the possibility of resuming the work of the consular section at the British Embassy in the capital.

During the meeting, the Director of the European Affairs Department emphasized the depth of bilateral relations between Libya and the United Kingdom, praising the important role it plays in supporting the political process in Libya.

For his part, the British official praised the positive role played by the Government of National Unity in promoting stability and comprehensive development in Libya.

During the meeting, the possibility of resuming the work of the consular section at the British Embassy in Tripoli was discussed to overcome the difficulties facing Libyan citizens wishing to obtain British visas, as well as the issue of lifting the ban on Libyan civil aviation.

The British official confirmed that intensive efforts are being made by the relevant authorities in London in this regard.

The meeting addressed ways to support, consolidate, and strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, to achieve the common interests of the two friendly countries.

The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the visit of Hamish Falconer, Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa at the British Foreign Office, to Libya.
