Tripoli, 10 August 2025 (Lana) UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Acting Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya, Aeneas Chuma, affirmed the United Nations' readiness to support national efforts to build an effective and participatory model for sustainable development in Libya.
This came during a meeting held by the National Committee for Sustainable Development of the House of Representatives (HoR) with Chuma, according to a statement by Spokesperson for HoR, Abdullah Blehaq.
Chuma welcomed all the committee's initiatives in the areas of capacity building, legislative development, and support for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, commending the step taken by the HoR in forming a national committee on the 2030 Agenda to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the meeting, chaired by Committee Chair Rabia Abu Ras and attended by Vice Chair of the Finance Committee and member of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Mahdi Al-Awar and several members of the Committee's technical team, the Committee's general vision and work plan were presented, along with a review of national priorities related to the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Africa's Agenda 2063.
The meeting discussed the possibility of joint cooperation between the Committee and the UN system in Libya, with the aim of coordinating efforts and activating institutional partnerships in the areas of analysis and policies, legislation, data and reports, partnerships and financing, and strategic communication.
Abu Ras emphasized that this meeting represents a new beginning toward a practical and sustainable partnership with the UN, enhancing the HoR's role in leading a just and responsive development process that meets the needs of all Libyans.
