Pulbished on:

Tripoli, August 6, 2025 (LANA) - The Libyan Customs Authority announced conditions to enhance transit services at the land borders with Tunisia and Egypt and protect the country from spoiled and substandard goods.

This came during a meeting between the acting Director of the Authority, Major General Musa Ali Mohammed, and the Director of the General Administration of Technical Affairs, the Director of the International Transit Department, and the Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Authority. The meeting discussed resolving obstacles facing the transit of goods through Libyan territory.

The Authority explained that a set of procedures and controls had been agreed upon in this regard, including the need to alert customs center heads of the requirement to obtain prior approval for any transit operation, whether to or from the Tunisian or Egyptian side, via the Authority's International Cooperation Office.

The Authority also emphasized the need to obtain a financial guarantee for the value of the goods from the exporting company, which is refundable upon successful completion of the transit operation. Approval must also be obtained when returning any goods from the Tunisian side to the country of origin, or from the Egyptian side via the designated entry window on the Egyptian side.

The Authority emphasized its commitment to the recommendations of the Libyan-Tunisian Technical Customs Committee regarding transit goods. In the event that the results of the projection analysis of transit goods are negative, the goods must be destroyed in the destination country.
