Tripoli, August 4, 2025 (LANA) – The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) set Saturday, August 16, as the official date for voting in the municipal council elections (Group Two), which include 51 municipalities across Libya.
The HNEC stated in a statement on its official page that it had issued (23) decisions from the HNEC Council to implement the stages of the electoral process despite significant challenges. It also excluded 60 candidates and four lists from the elections for not meeting the endorsement requirements.
The HNEC clarified that voting will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m., stressing the need to halt all forms of electoral propaganda and adhere to electoral silence, starting Friday, August 15.
The HNEC called on candidates, both lists and individuals, to expedite the process of appointing and registering their representatives in accordance with the specified procedures. It warned against engaging in any actions on election day that could be classified as electoral propaganda, stressing that it will not hesitate to enforce the law against those who violate its regulations and executive procedures.
According to the statement, it also called on organizations that have completed their registration and accreditation procedures to monitor the voting process to adhere to the regulations governing the monitoring process, maintain neutrality, and refrain from being drawn into the competition that occurs outside the ballot boxes.
