Tripoli, August 2, 2025 (LANA) – During her meeting with a delegation from the Al-Mithaq Association for Murzuq Families and a number of the city's elders and notables, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, discussed ways to enable the displaced to return to the city and restore its local and regional role.

According to what the mission published on its website, Khoury confirmed that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is actively engaged in this issue and stands ready to provide the necessary support to the relevant authorities.

During the meeting, participants stressed the importance of strengthening transitional justice, including accountability for the gross human rights violations that occurred in the city during the 2019 conflict, and the need to continue ongoing reconstruction efforts and promote long-term reconciliation among Murzuq's community components under a unified government.
