Kampala, July 26, 2025 (LANA) – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni stressed that the solution in Libya cannot be military, calling for inclusive dialogue as the only way to achieve lasting peace and the need to hold inclusive elections that restore legitimacy to Libyan institutions.
Museveni's remarks came while chairing a virtual meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, which his country holds the presidency of this July. Museveni stressed the importance of Africa's role in supporting Libyan reconciliation efforts.
In his speech, the Ugandan president explained that the Libyan crisis "requires a radical political solution," noting that the continuation of conflicts will only lead to further division and suffering.
He said, "The path to true stability lies through the ballot box, with the participation of all Libyans without exclusion."
Museveni presented a seven-point plan for achieving stability in Libya, which focused on the need to consolidate a ceasefire, ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries, and provide a secure environment for transparent elections under international and regional supervision.
