The United Nations Support Mission in Libya expresses its concern over the suspension of the electoral process in 11 municipalities

Tripoli, July 21, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed its concern over the announcement of the suspension of the electoral process in 11 municipalities.

This came during a meeting held today between the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Khoury, and the Chairman of the High National Elections Commission, Emad Al-Sayeh, to discuss the progress made in implementing the elections in 62 municipalities across Libya.

Khoury said that the UN Mission urges all relevant authorities to urgently address the underlying causes of this suspension and create the necessary conditions for the resumption of electoral processes in these municipalities as soon as possible.

She stressed that the continuation of the electoral process is essential to consolidating democratic governance and meeting the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people.
