A gang of African nationals was arrested for tampering with Libyan identity cards and forging official documents.

Ajdabiya, July 19, 2025 (LANA) - The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ajdabiya Security Directorate arrested a dangerous gang composed of Sudanese and Chadian nationals who were tampering with Libyan identity cards and forging official documents.

The directorate said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page that two members of the gang had previously been sentenced to deportation from Libya in 2023 on charges of illegal immigration and illicit gains.

The directorate confirmed that the gang was engaged in various criminal activities within the city of Ajdabiya, including smuggling four-wheel-drive vehicles with forged Libyan identity cards and false registration procedures to neighboring countries via the southern border. These vehicles were then used to transport illegal African migrants to the country.

It indicated that, in addition to forging documents and tampering with Libyan identity documents, birth certificates, national ID numbers, and family status records belonging to genuine Libyan citizens were seized. These documents were obtained without their knowledge and were obtained through intermediaries in exchange for sums of money.

The Directorate confirmed in its statement that all necessary legal measures had been taken against the individuals and that they had been referred to the competent authorities for further action.
