Tripoli, July 18, 2025 (LANA) – The Tarhuna Victims Association called on the Libyan authorities to hand over those wanted in human rights violations in Tarhuna to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to complete investigations.

This came in a statement published by the association on its Facebook page on Friday, marking International Criminal Justice Day, which falls on July 17 of each year.

The association called on the Prime Minister, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Attorney General, and the Ministries of Justice and Interior to take immediate action to implement international arrest warrants and hand over those wanted by the ICC. It called for respect for the will of the victims' families and their right to justice and fairness.

The association stated that the city of Tarhuna witnessed tragic episodes of systematic killing, enforced disappearances, and mass burials, which were documented by UN committees and independent international organizations, and for which the ICC has issued arrest warrants for some of those involved in these crimes.

The League reminded the Libyan state of its responsibilities in supporting victims and achieving international criminal justice, calling on it to fulfill its international obligations, foremost among which is handing over those wanted by the International Criminal Court and cooperating with international judicial bodies.
