Orlando meets with the Attorney General.

Tripoli, 17 July 2025 (Lana) Attorney General Saddiq Al Sour held a productive meeting in Tripoli with EU Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and discussed ways to strengthen joint cooperation in a number of priority issues.

Orlando said in a tweet that the meeting had a productive exchange on the EU’s support for the priorities of the Attorney General's Office, including combating oil, fuel, and human smuggling, corruption, and money laundering.

He also noted the importance of info-sharing with Operation EUNAVFOR MED “IRINI,” including on suspected oil and fuel smuggling, as part of joint efforts to combat transnational organized crime.

They also discussed ways to improve prison conditions and judicial review of all detainees and ensure respect for justice and human rights standards.

The meeting stressed the need to promote the justice system, starting with juvenile justice, and create appropriate conditions for free and fair municipal elections across the country, as well as strengthen oversight institutions and accountability.

“We agreed to deepen our effective partnership and stay closely engaged in the months ahead, in a way that serves stability and supports national institutions,” Orlando added.
