Foreign Affairs Committee of the HoR and the Council of Freedoms discuss the issue of Libyan youth in Italy.

Benghazi, 15 July 2025 (Lana): The Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights agreed to establish a joint framework for cooperation that would enable the Council to leverage its powers to monitor human rights conditions and promote Libya's efforts in complying with relevant international treaties.

This came at the conclusion of a meeting between the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the HoR, Youssef Al-Aqouri, and the Vice-Chairman of the National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights, Naima Al-Aribi, and her accompanying delegation, which was held at the Council's headquarters in Benghazi, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.

Spokesperson for HoR Abdullah Blihaq stated in a press statement that the meeting discussed several issues, including the case of Libyan youth detained in Italy, where Al-Aqouri confirmed that the Foreign Affairs Committee is closely following this issue.

The two parties also discussed ways to cooperate internationally to promote human rights, through the development of joint capacity-building programs and leveraging international expertise in this area.

For her part, Al-Aribi, expressed the council's readiness to contribute to reviewing and amending relevant laws, according to Blihaq.
