A gang involved in counterfeiting 20-dinar local currency was arrested in the city of Derna.

Derna, July 14, 2025 (LANA) - The Criminal Investigation Department, Derna branch, announced the arrest of a gang involved in counterfeiting 20-dinar local currency. This arrest came after a citizen reported that counterfeit banknotes were being circulated inside a store in the city center.

The department stated on its official Facebook page that the arrest was made following thorough field investigations. Security teams were able to monitor the vehicle used and arrest the driver, before identifying the remaining members of the gang.

The department confirmed that the defendants' residences were searched in coordination with the Public Prosecution, where counterfeit currency worth 660 dinars was found, along with suspected hashish and narcotic pills.

The department indicated that the seized items were confiscated and the defendants were placed in legal custody pending completion of the procedures and their referral to the Public Prosecution.
