Tripoli, July 13, 2025 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, stressed the importance of the International Follow-Up Committee (IFC) as a forum that brings together the main regional and international stakeholders concerned with the Libyan issue.
This came during her meeting with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, accompanied by the German Ambassador to Libya and her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury. The meeting briefed him on the results of the recent meeting of the IFC on Libya in Berlin, which reaffirmed the international community's commitment to supporting a purely Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
According to a post published by the UNSMIL website, Tetteh stressed the need to achieve realistic and implementable results through the IFC's regular meetings and to reactivate the working groups on the various tracks.
The meeting discussed views on the latest developments in Libya and the need to maintain the fragile stability to create the appropriate conditions for the political process. During the meeting, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General welcomed the efforts of the Attorney General and the recent release of a number of arbitrarily detained individuals.
Tetteh also stressed the importance of avoiding any actions or rhetoric that could lead to escalation or the outbreak of new clashes, particularly in densely populated areas. She praised the valuable contribution made by the de-escalation committees and the security and military arrangements.
