Cairo, July 9, 2025 (LANA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdel Ati affirmed Egypt's support for UN efforts to launch a political process to resolve the crisis in Libya. This came during a phone call between Abdel Ati and the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, on Wednesday.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said that Minister Abdel Ati highlighted the priority that the Libyan issue represents for Egypt's national security as a direct neighboring country.
The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of respecting Libya's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and distancing it from foreign interference. He also emphasized the need for concerted international efforts to implement UN resolutions related to the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from Libya, thus contributing to the restoration of security and stability.
Abdel Ati called for the unification of the Libyan executive authority on legitimate and consensual foundations, in a manner acceptable to the Libyan people and supporting the efforts of the United Nations.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized the need to support the Libyan-Libyan solution and achieve national consensus without foreign dictates, interference, or encroachment on the role of Libyan national institutions, in accordance with the terms of reference, which are Security Council resolutions and the Skhirat Agreement, leading to the holding of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, according to the spokesperson.
