Tripoli, 6 July 2025 (Lana): The East Tripoli Primary Prosecution ordered the detention of two defendants involved in a criminal gang involved in drug smuggling across the Libyan-Tunisian border.

The Public Prosecutor's Office reported that the head of the Tripoli branch of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Agency had provided evidence regarding the gang's activities and the identification of its members, and the two were arrested, one of whom was caught in possession of 25 kilograms of cocaine.

The public prosecutor stated that the investigation revealed that the two defendants were linked to drug and psychotropic substance smuggling networks whose leaders resided in Egypt and Turkey.

These networks regularly smuggled prohibited substances into Tunisia using medical vehicles.

The Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the Public Prosecution detained the two defendants pending investigation and began, through international cooperation mechanisms, to pursue the remaining contributors located outside national jurisdiction.
