Bani Walid 6 July 2025 (Lana): Meetings held yesterday in Bani Walid by the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, focused on the proposals provided by the Advisory Committee and the critical need to unify institutions amid the ongoing multifaceted crisis.

The UNSMIL stated that participants in the public consultations, held by Koury with the municipal council, community leaders, elected officials, academics, women, youth, and representatives of civil society, voiced their frustration over the prolonged political deadlock and repeated failures to reach a lasting resolution.

“Many called for a decisive break from the status quo, highlighting the continued marginalization of Bani Walid and the need to advance national reconciliation,” UNSMIL said.

They also called for ensuring the inclusive and meaningful participation of voices from across Libya in the UNSMIL-facilitated political process, which was regarded as essential.
