The U.S. Embassy in Libya mourns the passing of philosopher Najib Al-Hasadi and commends his academic legacy.

Tripoli, July 4, 2025 (LANA) – The US Embassy to Libya mourned the passing of the prominent Libyan thinker and philosopher, Dr. Najib al-Hasadi, who passed away yesterday, Thursday, at the age of 72, while receiving treatment in Jordan for lung cancer, which he was diagnosed with last May.
In a post on its official page, the embassy expressed its deep sorrow over the passing of Professor Al-Hasadi, praising his distinguished scientific career and extensive academic contributions, which received acclaim and respect both locally and internationally.
The embassy said in its obituary: “The US Embassy mourns with deep sadness the prominent Libyan philosopher, Professor Najib Al-Hasadi, who earned his master’s degree from Georgetown University and his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States. He authored important books in the fields of philosophy, logic, and critical thinking, and translated philosophical works from English into Arabic, making the ideas of a number of American and other thinkers available to a new readership.”
The post added, "Professor Al-Hasadi's distinguished academic career and his rich scientific and intellectual contributions earned him great respect and appreciation from his colleagues, students, and fans."
The embassy concluded its post by offering its deepest condolences to the deceased's family, friends, colleagues, and students, affirming that his scientific legacy will remain a source of inspiration for future generations.
