Tripoli, 2 July 2025 (Lana)—Representatives from UNSMIL and UNICEF met Monday with the Head of Office of the GNU Ministry of Defense and the Head of Human Rights Office to discuss child protection and security reforms.

According to the official page of UNSMIL, the two sides discussed news of child recruitment and existing instruments to ensure compliance with international standards, and UNICEF urged the establishment of an institutional mechanism that enables the State to monitor and address violations.

In a follow-up meeting, UNSMIL and the Ministry of Defense discussed efforts to solidify the truce in Tripoli and opportunities to advance security sector reform and reintegrate members of armed groups.

The Ministry and UNSMIL expressed their commitment to good governance, codes of conduct, professionalization, serving the people, inclusivity, and national and international rule of law.
