The Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity discusses cooperation with a delegation from the United Nations in strengthening the rules of international humanitarian law.

Tripoli, June 30, 2025 (LANA) - The Director of the Office of the Minister of Defense in the Government of National Unity met this morning with a UN delegation that included a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNICEF), the Head of the Security Institutions Services Division of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), and their accompanying delegation.
The meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters, discussed the Ministry of Defense's efforts to promote the rules of international humanitarian law and human rights, as well as the protection measures taken to prevent the recruitment or use of children in military operations.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Director of the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Office at the Ministry, the Director of the Office of the Minister of Defense emphasized Libya's commitment to international treaties and conventions ratified by the Libyan state.
For his part, UNICEF Representative Mohammed Fayazi commended the close cooperation shown by the Ministry of Defense and the measures it has taken in this regard.
During the meeting, Badr al-Din al-Harthi, Head of the Security Institutions Services Division at the United Nations Mission in Libya (UNMIS), praised the Ministry of Defense's efforts on the security and military fronts, the remarkable initiatives it has undertaken to develop and build the capacity of humanitarian personnel, and the completion of the issuance of a unified code of conduct.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to intensify joint cooperation to promote the values of peace and establish the foundations of stability.
