Tripoli, June 28, 2025 (LANA) – The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced today, Saturday, the opening of "voter" card distribution centers in the municipalities included in the second group of municipal council elections, starting today for a period of three weeks.
In a post on its official page, the commission called on voters registered in the 2025 municipal council voter registry to go to the polling centers where they registered to receive their cards. It noted that the centers will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The second group of municipal council elections are scheduled to be held before mid-August, according to a statement made last Wednesday by the commission's chairman, Imad Al-Sayeh.
In a video clip posted by the commission on its official Facebook page, Al-Sayeh explained that the delay in this phase is due to the need to verify the criminal records of the approximately 4,000 candidates, in addition to official holidays, religious occasions, and the security conditions witnessed in the capital, Tripoli, during the recent period.
Al-Sayeh confirmed that the Commission has completed printing voter cards and ballot papers, noting that the campaigning phase for candidates will begin today, Saturday, and continue until the election silence period.
In a related context, the Commission's Board issued a decision requiring candidates to adhere to the controls and conditions stipulated in Chapter Eight of Executive Regulations No. (43) of 2023 regarding municipal council elections.
The decision called on official media outlets to coordinate with the Commission to allocate media space for candidates to present their electoral platforms, stressing that campaigning will be subject to the oversight of organizations accredited by the Commission to monitor the elections.
In mid-June, the Commission's Board approved the final list of candidates for the second group of municipal council elections, in preparation for the launch of the second phase of the electoral process in the coming weeks.
