Ankara, June 28, 2025 (LANA) - Turkey affirmed that the memorandum of understanding signed with Libya in 2019 regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean "is an agreement fully consistent with international law and demonstrates that our country will never allow its legitimate rights and interests to be violated."
Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Kıçlı said in a statement yesterday, Friday, regarding the results of the EU leaders' summit, that the results adopted at the summit held on June 26, 2025, "demonstrate that Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration continue their efforts to impose their maximalist demands on the European Union, which violate international law and the principle of justice."
Öncü Kıçlı criticized the EU's statements, describing them as biased and politically motivated on a sensitive issue with legal and technical dimensions, such as the delimitation of maritime borders, which "does not serve regional peace and stability."
The statement said that the European Union should call on all its members to adhere to international law, "rather than adopting legally unfounded claims," stressing that Turkey will continue to firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of international law.
