Al-Huwaij meets with the Greek consul in Benghazi over his country's foreign minister's statements on maritime borders.

Friday, June 27, 2025 (LANA) - The meeting held today, Friday, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives, Abdulhadi Al-Huwaij, with the Greek Consul in Benghazi, Agapios Kalognoumis, focused on clarifying the government's position on issues related to the demarcation of the maritime border between the two countries.
The Ministry stated that the meeting, which was held following statements issued by the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kalognoumis, regarding the maritime border, also addressed bilateral relations between the two countries, within the framework of respect for national sovereignty and Libya's keenness to enhance mutual understanding.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing consultations, working to strengthen friendly relations between Libya and Greece, and developing cooperation mechanisms in areas of mutual interest.
According to the Ministry, this meeting reflects the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation's commitment to a policy of constructive dialogue with international partners and its keenness to address contentious issues through diplomatic channels, in a manner that serves security and stability in the region.
The Ministry summoned the Greek Consul in Benghazi yesterday, Thursday, following the Greek Foreign Minister's statements during a radio interview regarding the maritime border between the two countries.
