New York, June 24, 2025 (LANA) - The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hannah Tetteh, said that the truce in the capital, Tripoli, is fragile and the overall security situation is unpredictable.
During her second briefing on Libya to the UN Security Council on Tuesday via video link, Tetteh noted reports of continued mobilization, leading to fears of a resumption of armed clashes in the capital.
She emphasized that the demonstrations that followed the clashes in Tripoli reflect the extent of citizens' frustration and lack of confidence in the status quo.
The UN envoy congratulated the state security forces for conducting the peaceful demonstrations in Tripoli.
Tetteh pointed out that evidence uncovered following the security incidents in the Abu Salim area revealed gross human rights violations allegedly committed by the stabilization support groups.
