New York, June 24, 2025 (LANA) - The UN envoy to Libya, Hannah Tetteh, revealed her intention to present a time-bound roadmap of a political nature that reflects the demands of the Libyan people to end the transitional process.

In her second briefing on Libya to the Security Council on Tuesday, Tetteh said that a large number of Libyans desire a political process that promotes popular participation and gives them the opportunity to elect their leadership and produce a government with a clear mandate.

Tetteh indicated, that Libyans have lost confidence in the current bodies and question their willingness to put their own interests above national interests.

The UN envoy emphasized that the meeting of the International Follow-up Committee for the Berlin Process represents an important step in mobilizing international support to advance UN-led efforts in preparation for launching an inclusive political process in Libya.

She added that the attendees agreed to meet regularly to coordinate and provide international support for the political process, facilitated by the United Nations.

She noted that international support is indispensable, as Libya stands at a turning point in its efforts to achieve its goal of strengthening democracy and electing a government that unifies institutions. The UN envoy to Libya emphasized the importance of establishing independent investigative mechanisms to ensure justice, truth, and accountability in Libya.
