Tripoli, June 23, 2025 (LANA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity (GNA) summoned the Greek Ambassador to Libya, Nikolaos Garbelis, on Monday, against the backdrop of the unilateral steps taken by Greek authorities in disputed maritime areas.

The Ministry informed the Greek Ambassador of the GNA's condemnation of these steps, which, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, constitute a violation of international maritime law and a clear infringement of Libya's sovereign rights.

The Ministry stated that the GNA has taken appropriate diplomatic steps to preserve its legal rights in these areas.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan government, appointed by the House of Representatives, summoned the Greek Consul General in Benghazi, Agapios Kalognoumis, on Sunday and handed him a memorandum of protest against the Greek authorities' announcement of granting exploration licenses in disputed maritime areas south of Tikrit Island.
