Tripoli, June 21, 2025 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, conducted a field visit this afternoon to the site of the South Tripoli Gas Power Plant project to follow up on the progress of work on one of the government's most important strategic projects in the energy sector.

During the tour, the Prime Minister reviewed the progress made in the implementation of civil works and initial installations. He praised the efforts of the technical and advisory teams working on the project, stressing that this project is a fundamental pillar in the government's plan to secure sustainable energy sources and stabilize the electricity supply.

The project is being implemented by the Turkish Çalık Energy, Trade and Industry Company (Çalık) consortium, under the supervision of a consulting consortium comprising HILL International and ASESCO. It includes the installation of four Siemens SGT5-4000F gas turbines with a total production capacity of 1,300 megawatts, and relies on natural gas as the primary fuel.

Dabaiba indicated that the government has provided full support for the project in terms of budgets and supplies. He explained that the expected operational date for the first production unit is 2026. He called on the implementing agencies to adhere to the timetables and overcome any potential delays, particularly with regard to providing fuel supplies and enhancing the capacity of the electricity transmission network.

The Prime Minister emphasized that completing the project on time will contribute to effectively increasing generation capacity and reducing the burden on the public grid, especially during peak periods.
