Al-Mnifi meets with Brent.

Tripoli, June 19, 2025 (LANA) - President of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Mnifi, exchanged views on Thursday with the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy to Libya, Jeremy Brent, and his accompanying delegation on developments in the Libyan political scene.
The Presidential Media Office stated that during their meeting, the two emphasized the need to activate the political process and intensify international efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement that ends the division and leads to fair national elections.
The office conveyed from Brent his country's affirmation of its commitment to supporting the democratic process in Libya and Washington's support for the Libyan people in their quest for lasting peace and building effective civil state institutions.
The meeting addressed a number of human rights issues, most notably the human rights situation and monitoring the conditions of detainees and prisons, in light of the Council's commitment to ensuring standards of justice, transparency, and respect for relevant international conventions.
For his part, Brent stated in a tweet on the X platform, published by the US Embassy, that he discussed with Al-Mnifi the vital work being undertaken by the Interim Security Arrangements Committee to restore calm to the capital, consolidate the ceasefire, and reach an agreement on practical steps to ensure lasting stability. They also exchanged views on how to advance the Libyan political process facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) with unified international support.
