The IOM stated in a statement that "its field teams estimated the number of displaced persons from the Triangle area to the Northern State at (4,278) people, during the period from June 15 to 17, following clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces."
It added that "approximately (950) people crossed the border into Libya to escape the clashes, amid ongoing tension and displacement in the region."
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army has been waging a bloody war with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), leaving more than 20,000 dead and approximately 15 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations and local authorities. Research by American universities estimates the death toll at approximately 130,000.
