Tripoli, June 18, 2025 (LANA) – The Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Ambassador Nicola Orlando, said that the upcoming meeting of the International Follow-Up Committee of the Berlin Process is a key factor in strengthening international unity, but only Libyans can lead the way.
This came in a tweet by Ambassador Orlando published by the European Union Delegation today, Wednesday, in which he discussed his participation with ambassadors and chargés d'affaires from countries in an exchange of views hosted by Presidential Council members Abdullah al-Lafi and Musa al-Koni on ways to move forward with the political process in Libya, ahead of the upcoming meeting of the International Follow-Up Committee of the Berlin Process.
Ambassador Orlando said, "I highlighted the role of the Presidency Council as a unifying institution and emphasized the European Union's strong support for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to relaunch a Libyan-led process based on the Advisory Commission's proposals."
He added that, given the fragile security context and deep divisions affecting Libyans, we urged all actors to reject unilateral actions and engage seriously in the UN-facilitated process towards national elections and the renewal of legitimacy.
Ambassador Orlando believed that the Berlin meeting would be key to strengthening international unity, but that only Libyans could lead the way.
The Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Ambassador Nicola Orlando, concluded by encouraging all citizens to participate in the public survey conducted by UNSMIL and make their voices heard.
