Tripoli, June 16, 2025 (LANA) - The two deputies of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi, met this morning, Monday, with the UNSMIL Strategic Review Team, headed by Daniela Kroslak, who is currently visiting Tripoli.
Kroslak briefed the two deputies on the work of her technical team, which is evaluating the mission's performance over the past years, stressing the importance of listening to the Presidential Council's vision at this sensitive stage to adjust the mission's course of action, according to the Presidential Media Office.
The office explained that the two deputies welcomed the team, stressing the need to establish the principle of accountability and develop the mission's performance in line with the complexities of the current Libyan situation, avoiding reproducing methods that have not led to sustainable solutions.
Al-Koni and Al-Lafi emphasized the importance of formulating realistic plans that fit the Libyan context and enhance the state's sovereignty and unity. They also emphasized the need to make Libya a top priority on the UN agenda, by appointing figures capable of understanding the complexities of the crisis and dealing with the current political impasse. They noted that the interference of some Libyan parties has complicated the prospects for national reconciliation. They called for a more effective UN role to bring viewpoints closer together and formulate a timetable for elections, which will be presented for discussion at the upcoming Berlin conference.
The office quoted Kroslak as affirming her team's commitment to absorbing all views and incorporating them into the ongoing assessment process, in preparation for submitting recommendations to the UN Secretary-General.
