Tripoli, June 14, 2025 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) stressed the importance of Libyans' participation in shaping their country's future, emphasizing that their voices are essential to the success of the ongoing political process.
In a post on its official page earlier, the mission called on Libyan citizens to participate in the online public survey it recently launched, available at the link: https://ow.ly/9ITA50W9eLB, as part of a series of public consultations on the recommendations of the Advisory Committee.
In a statement published by the mission on Saturday, a local academic said: "The public consultations organized by the mission are a step in the right direction, and we hope that the opinion poll will lead to the formulation of a new roadmap based on the views of Libyans on the options proposed by the Advisory Committee."
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hannah Tetteh, and her Deputy, accompanied by a delegation from the mission, visited the municipality of Nalut last Thursday, where they held a series of meetings with several mayors, community leaders, security agencies, and notables from the Nafusa Mountains region, as well as a group of women and youth.
According to a mission statement, Tetteh and the accompanying UN team heard the views of representatives of the Amazigh community during the visit, who expressed their feelings of marginalization in state institutions, stressing that this reality negatively impacts their communities. The participants discussed the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, considering some of them to represent realistic and implementable options.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) continues to hold consultative meetings in various Libyan regions as part of its efforts to ensure the inclusiveness of the political process and the involvement of various Libyan components in shaping a future that reflects the aspirations of all citizens.
