Pending approvals: Al-Somoud Convoy to break the siege on Gaza stops at the entrance to Sirte.

Tripoli, June 13, 2025 (LANA) – The "Al-Somoud Convoy" to break the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip was halted after it was stopped at the entrance to the city of Sirte, awaiting security approvals to allow it to cross and continue on its way to the Libyan-Egyptian border.

Wael Nawar, the convoy's official spokesperson, said in press statements that the security authorities at the Sirte gate requested lists of the participants' names and passport numbers, which were submitted. We are still awaiting a response and clarification from the security side.

Wael Nawar addressed an appeal to the Libyan government appointed by the House of Representatives, saying, "You have a firm position on the Palestinian cause, and we know this. The Libyan Parliament has criminalized normalization with the Zionist entity, and in doing so, it has been more daring than many parliaments. We ask you to allow the convoy to pass. We are confident that when we pass, we will be welcomed by our Libyan people, stronger and more numerous than we witnessed in the cities we passed through. We have no political affiliations, and we stand with all the Libyan people, east and west, and there is no difference between them. They are all our brothers and sisters, and we support the cause of the Palestinian people."

The spokesman appealed to the residents and families in the areas near the camp, located in a semi-desert area lacking even the most basic necessities, to provide them with large tents for protection from the scorching sun, drinking water, portable toilets, and other essential needs.

Wael Nawar emphasized the convoy participants' determination to continue on their journey and achieve their goal of "reaching Gaza, staging a sit-in at the Rafah crossing, and breaking the siege."
